About lead photographer Laura Luis:
Lead photographer Laura Luis brings over a decade of professional photography experience to her work and clientele. Her experience includes event, documentary, and commercial photography coupled with extensive regional wedding and destination wedding assignments which have become the principle specialties of Three Lights. In addition to concentrated photography in the Northern Virginia–Washington, DC and New York City metropolitan areas, she has photographed at numerous national locations and internationally.

As a graduate with a degree in photojournalism from the University of Texas at Austin, Laura combines technical expertise with artistic sensibility developed from a honed photographer's viewpoint and lifetime of involvement in the arts. She started out in weddings as assistant and then second photographer to one of the most exclusive wedding photographers in the industry—elite Virginia wedding photographer Lynne Brubaker. Laura continues to work with Lynne on special occasion.

Published work & related experience:
Laura's resume includes published work in and assignments for online news media, newspapers, books, private advertising, and private art collections, including: BBC News, nationalgeographic.com, The Phillipsburg Mail, The Daily Texan, Silent They Speak, Dance Innovations, Inc. and the Alvin Ailey Alumnae Association—in addition to private industry projects for advertising and print publication. She has garnered prestigious awards including a special stipend for international documentary work in Oxford, England.

After completing her photography degree, Laura worked in the administrative offices of the National Geographic Society for National Geographic Magazine, Traveler, World (now National Geographic Kids), and nationalgeographic.com. This experience brought her into contact with some of the most important photographers and explorers of our lifetime and left an indelible mark on her life's pursuits.

Laura left her post at the Society to pursue Three Lights and her passion for photographing people at one of the most important high points of their lives, their wedding day. She thrives on diverse and challenging assignments to keep her perspective honest, fresh and innovative. This relentless pursuit of greater insight and skill makes her especially sought after for weddings and events—she is the "uncommon" wedding photographer with a deep and varied sense of what it means to document people's lives.

About Three Lights:
The name Three Lights comes from the basic technique of using three light sources to create the most dimensional visual lighting effect. This principal applies to studio work as well as to theater, film, and other similar disciplines of lighting. Light and its absence help to create visual interest in an image, influencing the artistic form and design of all shapes captured in the picture.

We take a dimensional approach to all our work—not just to shooting, but also to refining and printing images with great care and attention to detail. Our wedding album images are meticulously edited and perfected, and the album itself is tailor-designed for each client. It is this attention to detail in all facets of the process that sets us apart.
